Symptoms

Yin Deficiency with Empty Heat: Flushed cheeks, afternoon tidal fevers, night sweats, hot flashes, and five-palm heat (heat sensation in the palms, soles, and chest).

Respiratory & Throat Symptoms: Chronic dry cough, dry throat, hoarseness, sticky or hard-to-expectorate phlegm, and occasional blood-streaked sputum due to Fire injuring Lung network vessels.

Consumptive Signs: Gradual weight loss, nocturnal emissions, dry mouth, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and general emaciation or weakness from long-term exhaustion of fluids.

Digestive Fragility: Mild digestive weakness accompanying the Yin deficiency, making harsh heat-clearing or heavy fluid-nourishing herbs difficult to tolerate without Spleen protection.

Tongue: Red or dark-red body with little to no coating, or a dry, cracked surface.

Pulse: Rapid (Shu), thready (Xi), and wiry (Xian), particularly in the Kidney position.

Posology

Granules: 3 to 9g per day, divided into two doses.

Note: Best taken with warm water. For respiratory issues, taking one dose in the late afternoon is particularly effective to counter the evening rise of "Empty Fire."

Spoons:
Our measuring spoons have an approximate capacity of 0.50 g. This should be taken into consideration when following the recommended dosage instructions for each product.

Zi Yin Jiang Huo Tang (Yin-Nourishing and Fire-Directing Downward Decoction) is the quintessential classical formula designed for severe Kidney and Lung Yin Deficiency with Flaring Empty Fire (Yin Xu Huo Wang).

Shu Di Huang, Sheng Di Huang, Tian Men Dong, and Mai Men Dong form a powerful four-herb Yin-generating powerhouse. Raw and Prepared Rehmannia deeply nourish Blood and Kidney Essence, while Asparagus and Ophiopogon generate fluids in the Upper Jiao, moisten the Lungs, and soothe chronic cough.

Zhi Mu and Huang Bai act as the essential Fire-draining pair; they clear Deficient Heat from the Kidney/Lower Jiao, extinguish flaring Empty Fire, stop night sweats, and eliminate tidal fevers.

Dang Gui and Bai Shao nourish the Blood and soften the Liver, preventing constrained Liver Qi from generating further internal heat.

Bai Zhu, Chen Pi, Sheng Jiang, Da Zao, and Zhi Gan Cao form a crucial protective core for the Spleen and Stomach. Bai Zhu and Chen Pi prevent the rich, heavy Yin tonics from causing damp stagnation, while Sheng Jiang, Da Zao, and Zhi Gan Cao harmonize digestion and ensure long-term tolerance of the formula.

Contraindications

STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED in cases of severe Spleen Yang Deficiency with watery diarrhea, cold limbs, or complete loss of appetite.

Do not use in patients with acute exterior Wind-Cold attacks (cold or flu) until the exterior pathogen has been cleared.
