Raw Herbs
Boil in 1000–1200ml of water and drink 1 to 3 cups per day.
Zi Shen Ming Mu Tang follows the principle that "the Liver opens into the eyes and the Kidney provides the essence."
Shu Di and Sheng Di provide a massive "water" base to nourish the Kidney Yin and cool the Blood.
Dang Gui, Bai Shao, and Chuan Xiong (from Si Wu Tang) nourish and move the Blood to ensure nutrients reach the optic nerve and retina.
Ju Hua and Man Jing Zi are the specific "vision herbs" that clear Wind-Heat from the eyes and brighten sight.
Huang Lian and Zhi Zi drain the "flaming fire" that causes redness and irritation.
Bai Zhi and Jie Geng act as "guiding herbs," directing the nourishing effects of the formula upward to the head and eyes.
Contraindicated for Spleen/Stomach Deficiency with diarrhea (due to the many cold and "heavy" herbs).
Not for use during the acute stage of a viral eye infection (Pink Eye) without professional modification.
Avoid in cases of Damp-Heat in the eyes with thick yellow discharge.
