Zhu Ru Wen Dan Tang treats the "muck" (Phlegm-Heat) that clouds the mind and irritates the stomach.
Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings) is the chief; it is exceptionally cool and specifically clears heat from the Gallbladder and Stomach to stop nausea and calm the Shen.
Huang Lian adds a stronger "fire-fighting" element to clear the heart-fire and stomach-fire.
Ban Xia, Chen Pi, and Fu Ling form the core of Er Chen Tang, which dries dampness and transforms the physical phlegm.
Zhi Shi breaks up stagnant Qi and "descends" the turbidity, pushing the Phlegm-Heat downward.
Ren Shen and Gan Cao protect the Spleen/Stomach Qi, ensuring that the bitter, cooling herbs do not damage the digestion during treatment.
Contraindicated for Cold-Phlegm (clear, watery phlegm, pale tongue, cold limbs).
Not for use in cases of severe Spleen/Stomach Yang Deficiency (weak digestion without heat).
Avoid during the very early "shivering" stage of a cold (Exterior Cold).
Pregnancy: Use with caution due to the strong descending and moving nature of Zhi Shi and Ban Xia.
