Yue Ju Wan is a masterpiece of efficiency, with each herb assigned to a specific "stagnation":
Xiang Fu (Qi): The chief herb. It is the "Commander of Qi" and resolves emotional constraint.
Chuan Xiong (Blood): Invigorates the blood and moves the Qi within the blood to stop pain.
Cang Zhu (Damp): Dries dampness and strengthens the Spleen to resolve the heavy feeling.
Zhi Zi (Fire): Clears the heat that inevitably builds up when Qi is stagnant for too long.
Shen Qu (Food): Promotes digestion and resolves food stagnation (accumulation).
Note: Phlegm stagnation is treated indirectly by the combination of Cang Zhu (drying damp) and Xiang Fu (moving Qi).
Contraindicated for deficiency-type patterns (where there is no actual stagnation, just lack of energy).
Use with caution in cases of severe Yin Deficiency (dryness, red tongue with no coat).
Not for use during Pregnancy due to the strong moving nature of Chuan Xiong and Xiang Fu.
