Symptoms

Chest pain or a sensation of oppression/stuffiness in the chest.

Chronic, localized, and fixed headaches (often described as stabbing).

Palpitations or a "thumping" heart, often accompanied by anxiety.

Emotional instability: Irritability, mood swings, or "inner heat" in the chest.

Insomnia or restless sleep with frequent dreaming.

Posology

Granules
3 to 9g per day after main meals, diluted in hot water.

Description

Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang is a masterpiece of "up-and-down" regulation. It moves the blood while simultaneously lifting and descending the Qi.

Tao Ren and Hong Hua are the chief herbs; they work together to aggressively break up blood stasis.

Dang Gui, Sheng Di, and Chi Shao nourish and cool the blood, ensuring that the "breaking" action does not lead to dryness or injury to the vessels.

Chuan Xiong is the "Qi herb within the blood," moving both to stop pain.

Chai Hu and Zhi Ke regulate the Liver Qi and expand the chest.

Jie Geng and Niu Xi create the "vertical axis": Jie Geng guides the herbs upward to the chest, while Niu Xi guides the blood downward and prevents "blood rebellion" toward the head.

Contraindications

STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED during Pregnancy (due to strong blood-breaking effects of Tao Ren and Hong Hua).

Not for use during Menstruation if the flow is already heavy.

Contraindicated for patients with active bleeding disorders or those taking strong anticoagulant medication (e.g., Warfarin) without professional supervision.

Not for use in cases of severe Qi or Blood deficiency without significant stasis.
