Note: This formula is designed for acute conditions. It is traditionally taken warm to help "release the exterior" and drive the Wind out through the pores.
Xu Ming Tang is unique because it treats Wind by combining "hot" herbs to release the surface and "cold" herbs to prevent internal fire, all while supporting the body's upright Qi.
Gui Zhi work to open the pores and release the External Wind-Cold that has trapped the Qi in the channels.
Shi Gao acts as a Deputy; it clears any latent heat that might arise from the "friction" of the stagnant Qi, ensuring the hot herbs don't cause further damage.
Ren Shen and Dang Gui nourish the Qi and Blood, providing the "upright energy" necessary to push the Wind out and restore movement to the limbs.
Chuan Xiong is the "Qi medicine within the Blood"; it moves the Blood in the channels to alleviate numbness and paralysis.
Xing Ren helps the Lung Qi descend, supporting the overall Qi circulation.
Gan Jiang and Gan Cao warm the middle and harmonize the formula.
STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED for Wind-Stroke due to Yin Deficiency (Internal Wind from heat/dryness, red tongue, no exterior symptoms).
Use with extreme caution in patients with Hypertension (due to Gui Zhi).
Not for long-term use; discontinue once the exterior symptoms vanish and the paralysis begins to resolve.
