Strengthen Spleen Qi • Warm the Stomach • Transform Dampness
Strengthen Spleen Qi • Warm the Stomach • Transform Dampness
Symptoms
Cold Digestion: A distinct preference for hot drinks and soups; stomach pain or bloating that significantly worsens after eating raw salad, fruit, or cold water.
Morning Nausea: A feeling of "fullness" or nausea upon waking, often accompanied by a sticky or sweet taste in the mouth.
Heavy Stagnation: A profound sense of abdominal distension, heavy limbs, and loose stools that feel "incomplete."
Poor Appetite: A complete lack of hunger; the patient may feel full after only a few bites of food.
Key Indicator: "Spleen-Stomach Deficiency with Cold-Damp Obstruction"—where the "Digestive Fire" is too weak to burn off internal dampness, leading to a metabolic "clog."
Tongue: Pale and swollen with teeth marks and a thick, white, greasy coating.
Pulse: Weak (Xu) and Moderate (Huan) or Slippery (Hua).

Description
Xiang Sha Yang Wei Tang is more "Active" than a typical tonic. It focuses on "Waking up" the stomach rather than just feeding it.
Aromatic Penetration: The combination of Huo Xiang, Pei Lan, and Sha Ren creates a "cloud" of aromatic energy in the stomach. This is essential for breaking through "sticky" dampness that simple tonics can't reach.
Drying vs. Draining: Most digestive issues involve water metabolism. By using Bai Zhu to "mop up" and Fu Ling to "drain the sink," the formula restores the Spleen's ability to transport fluids correctly.
The Warmth Factor: Because it contains Sheng Jiang and warming aromatics, it is excellent for "Stomach Cold," helping to restart the metabolic heat necessary for proper enzyme function and nutrient absorption.
Posology
Granules
3 to 9g daily, divided into 2 doses, taken with warm water.
Raw Plants
Decoct in 800ml of water. CRITICAL: Sha Ren, Huo Xiang, and Pei Lan are highly aromatic. They should be added in the last 5–7 minutes of boiling to ensure their volatile oils are not lost to steam.
Cautions
Strictly contraindicated for Stomach Heat or Yin Deficiency. If the patient has a dry mouth, red tongue with no coat, or chronic burning heartburn (Acid Reflux with Heat), this formula will be too drying and will aggravate the condition. It is designed for "Cold-Damp"—think of a soggy, cold marsh that needs sunlight and wind to dry out.
