Granules: 4.5 to 9g per day, divided into two doses.
Note: Best taken with warm water on a relatively empty stomach to maximize absorption of the heavy tonics.
Sheng Xue Tang follows the principle that "to generate Blood, one must first tonify the Qi."
Shu Di Huang and E Jiao are the heavy-hitters; they provide the direct "material" (Jing and Essence) to build Blood and nourish the Kidneys and Liver.
Huang Qi and Ren Shen are the Chiefs for Qi; they strengthen the Spleen (the source of Blood) and ensure the Qi can "command" the Blood to stay within the vessels.
Dang Gui and Bai Shao nourish the Liver Blood and soften the sinews.
Chuan Xiong is essential here; it is the "Qi medicine within the Blood," preventing the heavy, sticky nature of Shu Di and E Jiao from causing blood stasis or digestive stagnation.
Zhi Gan Cao harmonizes the formula and supports the Middle Burner.
STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED for Excess Heat or Fire (high fever, red face, thirst).
Avoid during the acute stage of a cold/flu (External syndromes), as tonics can "trap" the pathogen inside.
Use with caution in cases of Severe Spleen Dampness (greasy tongue coating, loose stools) without adding digestive herbs like Chen Pi.
