This condition involves rectal bleeding due to either intestinal wind-heat or damp-heat toxin in the Intestines and Stomach. Wind-heat leads to bright-red blood, often before or with stool, while damp-heat toxin causes dark blood mixed with or following stool. Both injure the blood collaterals, with a red tongue and rapid pulse; wiry for wind-heat, soggy or slippery for damp-heat.

Deputies Platycladi Cacumen (ce bai ye) and Schizonepetae Spica (jing jie sui) assist in cooling blood, stopping bleeding, and dispersing wind. Aurantii Fructus (zhi ke) regulates qi to ensure smooth blood flow, preventing stasis while supporting the other herbs.
