This is a phlegm-dampness pattern caused by Spleen and Lung dysfunction, leading to fluid accumulation. Phlegm obstructs the middle burner, causing focal chest and diaphragm distention, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness, and rises to the Lungs, producing cough with copious, white, easily expectorated sputum. The white, moist or greasy tongue coating and slippery pulse reflect the presence of phlegm-dampness.

The chief herbs, Pinelliae Rhizoma preparatum (zhl ban xia) and Citri reticulatae Pericarpium (chen pi), open the qi dynamic, descend rebellious Stomach qi, and transform phlegm while restoring the middle burner’s transportive function. Poria (fu ling) supports them by leaching dampness, strengthening the Spleen, and relieving palpitations and dizziness. Glycyrrhizae Radix (zhl gan cao) tonifies the Spleen; Zingiberis Rhizoma recens (sheng jiang) harmonizes the Stomach and aids phlegm elimination; and Mume Fructus (wu mei) astringes phlegm, prevents fluid injury, and assists expectoration.
