Dang Gui Yin Zi addresses the root of "Internal Wind" caused by "Blood Dryness." When the Blood is deficient, it cannot nourish the skin, leading to "Wind" (itching).
Dang Gui, Sheng Di, and Bai Shao form the core Blood-nourishing team to moisten the skin and "anchor" the Wind.
He Shou Wu provides deep essence (Jing) and blood nourishment, which is essential for chronic, long-term skin recovery.
Fang Feng, Jing Jie, and Bai Ji Li are the "Wind-Expelling" herbs. They move to the surface to stop itching and clear the "pathogenic Wind" from the skin layers.
Huang Qi tonifies the Qi to help the Blood-nourishing herbs circulate to the periphery (the skin).
Chuan Xiong moves the Blood, ensuring that the nourishing herbs do not cause stagnation.
Contraindicated for Damp-Heat skin patterns (weeping, oozing, very red, and yellow-crusted lesions).
Not for use during the acute stage of a Wind-Heat rash (use Xiao Feng San instead).
Use with caution in cases of severe Spleen deficiency with loose stools (due to the rich, cloying nature of Sheng Di and He Shou Wu).
