Symptoms:

Posology

Granules 
3 to 9g per day after main meals, diluted in hot water.

Raw Plants
Boil in 1000 or 1200ml of water and drink 1 to 3 cups per day.

Description

Ba Zhen Tang, known as the “Eight-Treasure Decoction,” is a classical formula designed to deeply restore both Qi and Blood when they are simultaneously deficient. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi provides functional energy, while Blood nourishes tissues and anchors the spirit. When both become depleted—due to chronic illness, overwork, blood loss, or constitutional weakness—symptoms such as fatigue, pallor, dizziness, shortness of breath, and general weakness arise.

This formula combines two foundational strategies: strengthening Spleen Qi to improve the production of energy and fluids, and nourishing Liver and Heart Blood to restore vitality and proper circulation.

Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) is a primary Qi tonic. It strongly reinforces Spleen and Lung Qi, supports Yuan Qi, and enhances the body’s capacity to generate Blood. Its presence ensures that tonification is deep and effective, particularly in cases of pronounced fatigue.

Bai Zhu (Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma) strengthens the Spleen and supports transformation and transportation. By improving digestion and fluid metabolism, it ensures that nutrients are properly assimilated and prevents Dampness from accumulating during tonification.

Fu Ling (Poria) gently supports the Spleen and promotes healthy fluid movement. It stabilizes digestion, prevents stagnation, and contributes to emotional calmness, making the formula suitable for long-term rebuilding.

Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix preparata) tonifies Qi and harmonizes the actions of the other herbs. It moderates tension, supports the middle burner, and integrates the formula into a cohesive whole.

On the Blood-nourishing side:

Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix preparata) is the chief Blood and Yin tonic. It deeply replenishes Blood and Essence, addressing chronic weakness, dizziness, and dryness associated with depletion.

Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix alba) nourishes Blood and preserves Yin while softening the Liver. It helps relieve tension and stabilizes the formula by moderating more moving herbs.

Dang Gui (Angelicae sinensis Radix) both nourishes and gently invigorates the Blood, promoting healthy circulation and preventing stagnation. It is especially important in menstrual regulation and recovery from blood loss.

Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) moves Blood and regulates Qi, ensuring that nourishment circulates effectively. It directs revitalized Blood throughout the body and helps alleviate dizziness or headache associated with deficiency.

Together, these eight herbs create a balanced formula that tonifies without causing stagnation and nourishes without overburdening digestion. Ba Zhen Tang restores both functional energy and nutritive substance, making it especially suitable for recovery, constitutional weakness, and combined Qi and Blood deficiency patterns.

Contraindications

Not recommended for acute infections, excess heat, or digestive stagnation. Use with caution in cases of Yin deficiency with empty heat, dampness, or high blood pressure. Consult a practitioner before use.
