Symptoms

Description

Unblocking the Bottom (Wu Ling San): By using Gui Zhi to warm the Yang, the formula provides the "metabolic steam" necessary to get the water passages moving again. This resolves the paradox of being thirsty while holding onto water.

Clearing the Top and Middle (Ban Xia Hou Po Tang): While water is drained through the urine, Ban Xia and Hou Po shatter the phlegm that has risen to the throat and clear the "clumping" in the digestive tract.

Posology

Raw Herbs

Decoct in 1000ml of water down to 400ml. Drink in two divided doses.

Granules

 4.5 to 9g daily, typically taken with warm water before or after meals.

Cautions

Not for Heat or Dryness. If the patient has a red tongue with a dry yellow coating and dark, scanty urine, this formula is too warming and drying. Kidney Function: Use with professional guidance if treating severe kidney disease. Discontinue use once the "greasy" coating on the tongue has resolved and urination has returned to normal.
