PLANT DESCRIPTION

This formula is a supplemented formula of Si Ni San, and a reduced formula of Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang（House of Blood Stasis-Expelling Decoction. It is a formula for emotional disorders. It has the function to rectify qi and invigorate blood. It is applicable to patients characterized by chest pain，headache，cold limbs，and dull-purple tongue.

Formula Composition

  • Chai Hu（Radix Bupleuri），15g
  • Bai Shao（Radix Paeoniae Alba）or  Chi Shao（Radix Paeoniae Rubra），15g
  • Zhi Ke（Fructus Aurantii），15g
  • [Sheng］ Gan Cao（Radix Glycyrrhizae Cruda），5g
  • Dang Gui（Radix Angelicae Sinensis），15g
  • Chuan Xiong（Rhizoma Chuanxiong），15g
  • Tao Ren（Semen Persicae），15g
  • Hong Hua（Flos Carthami），15g

 
TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Decoction
Place the medicinals in 1100 mL water and boil until 300 mL remains. Take the decoction warm，in 2 to 3 doses.

Suitable Population
For those with livid or dull complexion，or with melasma，tense and tight muscles，dry，scaly，and flaky skin，dull-red tongue，and dull -purple tongue body； frequently with chest oppression and discomfort，unstable emotions，difficulty to fall asleep，and tenderness under the ribside upon palpation； tendency to have intractable spasmodic pain，particularly with chest pain，headache，abdominal distension，or lumbar pain； generally with menstrual irregularities，scanty menstrual flow，premenstrual distending pain in breast，and dysmenorrhea in females.

Depression，anxiety，neurosis，intractable insomnia，vasculoneurogenic headache，hypertensive headache，cerebral arteriosclerosis headache，post-traumatic headache，post-concussion headache，migraine，epilepsy，coronary angina pectoris，pulmonary heart disease，pleurisy，costochondritis，chest trauma，intercostal neuralgia，gastric neurosis，stomach ulcer，intestinal cramps，adhesive intestinal obstruction，intractable hiccup，bruxism，neurotic vomiting，chronic hepatitis，cirrhosis，splenomegaly，cerebral infarction，skin diseases，arteritis，phlebitis，fundus hemorrhage，retinal periphlebitis，and retinal vein occlusion.

Cautions
Use with caution for those with diarrhea or deficient and weak constitution.If this formula is taken by mistake，there can be sensation of fatigue and lack of strength.
