Prof. Huang Huang Formula
Rectify Qi & Invigorate Blood • Unblock the Channels
This formula is a specialized clinical synthesis, blending the Qi-regulating power of Si Ni San with the Blood-stasis breaking core of Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang. It is the premier choice for "Stagnation-Type" emotional disorders where the blockage has moved from the Qi level into the Blood level.
Symptoms
Localized Pain: Sharp, fixed, or "stabbing" pain in the chest, hypochondrium, or head (tension-type or vascular headaches).
Emotional Depression: Low mood, irritability, or "dark" emotional states accompanied by a feeling of physical constraint.
Cold Limbs: Fingers and toes that feel cold to the touch while the trunk of the body remains warm (due to Qi/Blood not reaching the extremities).
Vascular Congestion: Palpitations, a feeling of "surging" or pressure in the chest, and poor peripheral circulation.
Key Indicator: "Qi Stagnation & Blood Stasis"—where long-term emotional constraint (Liver Qi) has caused the blood to slow down and "clump," leading to physical pain and a dusky complexion.
Tongue: Dull-purple or dark red body, possibly with "stasis spots" on the sides.
Pulse: Wiry (Xuan) or Choppy (Se).

Description
This formula acts as a "Decongestant" for the body's entire circulatory system. It recognizes that in TCM, "Qi is the commander of Blood"—if the Qi stops, the Blood clots.
The Si Ni San Foundation: By including Chai Hu, Shao Yao, Zhi Ke, and Gan Cao, the formula addresses "Frustration-Cold" (limbs becoming cold because Qi is knotted up in the center). It "stretches" the Qi back out to the fingers and toes.
The Blood-Stasis Duo: The addition of Tao Ren and Hong Hua (the "Peach and Safflower" pair) adds a much stronger physical action. It clears out "old blood" that has become stagnant due to chronic stress or physical trauma.
Nourishing While Moving: Unlike harsh purgatives, Dang Gui and Shao Yao ensure that while the stasis is being broken, the body is still being nourished. This makes it appropriate for chronic emotional disorders where the patient is somewhat depleted.
