Symptoms

Deficiency Heat (Empty Fire): Night sweats, "Five-Center Heat" (burning sensation in palms, soles, and chest), and low-grade afternoon fever.

Urinary/Reproductive: Frequent urination with a burning sensation, dark/scanty urine, or nocturnal emissions (spermatorrhea).

Mouth and Throat: Dry throat (worse at night), toothache, or bleeding gums due to "Flaring Fire."

Dizziness, tinnitus (high-pitched), and lower back soreness.

Tongue: Red body with little or no coating (peeled or shiny).

Pulse: Thin (Xi) and rapid (Shuo).

Posology

Granules
3 to 9g per day after main meals, diluted in hot water.

Boil in 1000–1200ml of water and drink 1 to 3 cups per day.

Description

Zhi Bai Di Huang Tang builds upon the "Three Tonify, Three Drain" structure of the original Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, adding a heavy-duty cooling mechanism.

Zhi Mu and Huang Bai are the "Firefighters." Zhi Mu clears heat and moistens dryness, while Huang Bai specifically drains "Damp-Heat" and "Deficiency Fire" from the Lower Burner (Kidneys/Bladder).

Shu Di Huang, Shan Yao, and Shan Zhu Yu provide the Yin and Essence foundation to stop the fire from returning.

Mu Dan Pi clears Heat from the Blood, while Ze Xie and Fu Ling drain dampness to ensure the Kidney fire doesn't get trapped.

Contraindications

STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED for Spleen/Stomach Cold (chronic diarrhea, cold limbs, pale tongue).

Not for use in cases of Excess Heat (high fever, full bounding pulse—use Huang Lian Jie Du Tang instead).

Not suitable for patients with severe indigestion or "Dampness" (thick greasy tongue coat).
