Xin Yi Qing Fei Yin works by "extinguishing the fire" in the Lungs while using "aromatic venting" to open the nose.
Xin Yi Hua is the chief; its aromatic and upward-moving nature "vents" the nasal passages and unblocks the orifices.
Huang Qin, Zhi Zi, and Shi Gao form a powerful cooling team to drain fire from the Lungs and Stomach that is rising to the face.
Sang Bai Pi and Pi Pa Ye descend the Lung Qi, helping to clear phlegm and heat from the upper respiratory tract.
Zhi Mu, Sheng Di, and Mai Men Dong nourish the Yin and moisten the Lungs to ensure the cooling herbs do not dry out the delicate nasal mucosa.
Gan Cao harmonizes the formula and clears heat.
Contraindicated for Nasal Congestion due to Cold (clear, watery discharge—use Cang Er Zi San instead).
Not for use in cases of Spleen Deficiency with diarrhea (due to the many cold herbs).
Use with caution in patients with very weak digestion.
Pregnancy: Use with caution due to the strong downward-clearing mineral and cooling herbs.
