Inflammatory Signs: Rapid onset of localized redness and heat; may be accompanied by mild fever or systemic restlessness.
Key Indicator: "Toxic Heat in the Skin and Flesh"—where external Heat or internal "Damp-Heat" has become "Fire Toxin," stagnating the Blood and Qi in a specific area.
Tongue: Red body with a yellow coating.
Pulse: Rapid (Shu) and potentially Forceful (Shi).

Description
Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin is composed entirely of cold, bitter, and acrid herbs that "dissolve" the toxicity from the inside out.
The Anti-Toxin Chiefs (Jin Yin Hua & Lian Qiao): These two are the "Pioneers" of clearing Heat. They vent the heat to the surface and move it out of the Blood to stop the spread of infection.
The "Deep-Clearing" Duo (Pu Gong Ying & Xia Ku Cao): Dandelion (Pu Gong Ying) is famous for clearing Heat from the Liver and Breast (mastitis). Xia Ku Cao (Prunella) specifically targets "clumped" heat and phlegm, making it ideal for hard nodules or swellings.
The External Vent (Ye Ju Hua): Wild Chrysanthemum is more potent and "clearing" than the common garden variety. It specifically targets the Fire Toxin lodged in the skin.
Posology
Granules
3 to 9g daily, divided into 2 doses, taken with warm water.
Raw Plants
Decoct in 800ml of water. For acute skin infections, this formula is sometimes used both internally and externally: the decoction is drunk, and the dregs are applied as a warm poultice directly onto the red, swollen area to "draw out" the heat.
Cautions
Not for "Cold" or "Deficiency" Sores. If a skin lesion is flat, purple/dark, not painful, or does not feel hot, this formula is contraindicated. It is also not appropriate once an abscess has fully burst and is draining pus—at that stage, the body needs tonifying herbs like Huang Qi to heal the wound. Prolonged use can damage the Spleen Qi due to its very cold and bitter nature.
