Harmonize the Middle • Transform Turbidity • Drain the Water
Symptoms
"Soggy" Digestion: Watery diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting where the fluids feel "lukewarm" and stagnant.
Abdominal Fullness: A distinct feeling of "sloshing" or heavy distention in the epigastrium that is worsened by drinking fluids.
Body Heaviness: A profound sense of lethargy, heavy limbs, or even mild edema (swelling) in the ankles or face.
Loss of Appetite: A "sticky" or "sweet" taste in the mouth with a complete lack of hunger.
Key Indicator: "Dampness Overwhelming the Middle Burner"—where the Spleen is so "drowned" in fluids that it can no longer transform food into energy.
Tongue: Swollen with a thick, white, greasy coating
Pulse: Slippery (Hua) or Moderate (Huan).

Description
Wei Ling Tang treats the body like a flooded basement. It doesn't just mop the floor; it turns on the heater and opens the drain simultaneously.
The "Two-Way" Exit: While the Ping Wei components (Cang Zhu, Hou Po) use aromatic heat to "dry up" the dampness in the stomach, the Wu Ling components (Fu Ling, Ze Xie) open the "floodgates" of the bladder to lead the water out.
The Yang Spark: The inclusion of Gui Zhi is brilliant—it acts like a pilot light. Dampness is "Cold" by nature; Gui Zhi provides enough warmth to turn stagnant water into moving Qi.
Acute Gastrointestinal Support: It is a go-to formula for "Stomach Flu" (viral gastroenteritis) characterized by heavy diarrhea and a feeling of being "clogged" with fluids.
Posology
Granules
3 to 9g daily, divided into 2–3 doses, taken with warm water.
Raw Plants
Decoct in 800ml of water. Traditionally, it is often decocted with Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) to further assist the stomach in stopping nausea.
Cautions
Strictly contraindicated for Dryness or Yin Deficiency (dry mouth, red tongue with no coat). Because this formula is highly diuretic and drying, it can easily deplete the body's healthy fluids if used when dampness is not present. Use with caution in cases of Heat-type diarrhea (burning sensation, foul smell). Discontinue once the tongue coating thins and the stools become formed.
