Description
Si Ni San addresses the pattern of cold extremities due to constrained Yang and stagnating Liver Qi, where the extremities feel cold but the internal organs are warm.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) – chief herb; spreads Liver Qi, relieves constraint, and directs the formula to the Liver.
Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus immaturus) – assists by moving Qi, alleviating abdominal fullness, and directing stagnated Qi downward.
Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix alba) – nourishes Liver Blood, softens the Liver, calms spasms, and helps harmonize the nutritive (Yin) and protective (Yang) aspects.
Gan Cao (Zhi) (Glycyrrhizae Radix preparata) – harmonizes the actions of the herbs, moderates tension, and supports Qi tonification.
Together, the formula relieves cold extremities by regulating Liver Qi, harmonizing Yin and Yang, and restoring proper energy flow, addressing both the root (Liver constraint) and branch (cold hands and feet).
