Run Chang Tang works on the principle of "lubricating the flow" rather than "purging with fire." It is a formula rich in natural oils and Blood tonics.
Huo Ma Ren (Hemp Seed) is the chief herb; it is extremely rich in oils that moisten the intestinal tract without causing aggressive irritation or diarrhea.
Tao Ren (Peach Kernel) assists in lubrication and helps move Blood that may be stagnant in the intestines.
Dang Gui and Sheng Di Huang nourish the Blood and fluids (Yin), treating the "root" of the dryness.
Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange) regulates the Qi of the Large Intestine, helping to gently "push" the stool downward without causing severe cramping.
Contraindicated for Damp-Heat Constipation (sticky, foul-smelling stools with a yellow greasy tongue coating).
Pregnancy: Use with extreme caution due to the Blood-moving effects of Tao Ren and Dang Gui.
Not for use in cases of diarrhea or severe Spleen deficiency with loose stools.
Avoid long-term use to prevent intestinal dependency on laxatives, even lubricating ones.
