Description
Qin Jiao Bie Jia San uses a "venting and nourishing" strategy. It clears heat from the deepest levels of the body without damaging the already depleted Yin.
Bie Jia (Soft-Shelled Turtle Shell) is the Chief; it is "salty and cold," allowing it to enter the deepest levels (Kidney/Liver) to nourish Yin and "anchor" the floating heat.
Qin Jiao is unique; although it is for "Wind-Damp," it is the only herb in its class that is not drying, making it perfect for clearing deficiency heat from the joints and bones.
Di Gu Pi, Qing Hao, and Zhi Mu are the "Firefighters"; they clear heat from the Blood and Lungs and stop the "steaming" sensation.
Chai Hu vents the heat outward so it doesn't remain trapped in the interior.
Dang Gui and Wu Mei protect the Blood and Yin, "astringing" the sweat to stop the loss of fluids.
STRICTLY CONTRAINDICATED for Excess Heat (high fever with a thick yellow coating).
Not for use during the acute stage of a cold or flu (Exterior syndromes).
Avoid in cases of Spleen/Stomach Cold (loose stools, poor appetite).
Pregnancy: Use with caution (consult practitioner due to the "moving" nature of some herbs).
