Release the Exterior & Transform Dampness • Gastrointestinal Qi Rectification
Release the Exterior & Transform Dampness • Gastrointestinal Qi Rectification
Symptoms
Acute "Stomach Flu": Sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, and watery diarrhea (often with a gurgling sound).
Exterior Patterns: Fever and chills, body aches, and a "heavy" headache (feeling like the head is wrapped in a wet cloth).
Fullness & Distension: A "stuffed" or tight feeling in the chest and epigastrium that resists pressure.
Sensory Heaviness: Extreme lethargy, heavy limbs, and a "sticky" or sweet taste in the mouth.
Key Indicator: "Damp-Cold Obstructing the Middle"—where the Spleen is "drowned" by moisture, stopping the clear Qi from rising and causing turbid Qi to rebel upward (vomiting).
Tongue: Swollen with a thick, white, and greasy coating;
Pulse: Soft (Ru), slippery, or moderate.

Description
Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Tang is an "Aromatic" masterpiece designed to restore the Qi Mechanism (Qi Ji). In TCM, dampness acts like a thick fog that prevents the Lungs from descending and the Spleen from ascending. This formula "shatters" that fog.
Aromatic Awakening (Huo Xiang & Zi Su Ye): These herbs use volatile oils to "shiver" the dampness away from the Spleen. They revive the digestive fire while simultaneously venting the exterior to stop chills and headaches.
Scouring the Middle (Hou Po & Da Fu Pi): These act as "chimney sweeps" for the digestive tract. They move stagnant Qi downward, breaking up the physical pressure and bloating in the abdomen.
Drying the Source (Ban Xia & Chen Pi): This classic pair transforms the "Internal Dampness" (Phlegm) in the stomach, which is the root cause of the nausea and vomiting.
Leaching the Excess (Bai Zhu & Fu Ling): While other herbs dry the dampness, these two ensure the fluids have an exit strategy, draining the moisture out through the bladder.
The Pivot (Jie Geng): By opening the Lung Qi above, it helps the "Water Passages" regulate from the top down, acting as a pressure-release valve for the whole system.
Cautions
Strictly contraindicated for Damp-Heat patterns (characterized by burning diarrhea, a red tongue, or a yellow coating). This formula is warm and drying, using it for heat-based infections will "bake" the dampness into a harder pathogen. Not for use in cases of severe Yin Deficiency (dry mouth, peeled tongue). Discontinue as soon as the greasy tongue coating disappears to protect the body's healthy fluids.
