Fever, bitter taste, abdominal pain, diarrhea, yellow-coated red tongue, and rapid or flooding pulse indicate a dysenteric disorder caused by heat constraint in the lesser yang affecting the Stomach and Intestines. The obstruction of yang qi leads to hot, sticky stools, foul odor, anal burning, and sometimes tenesmus. Heat rising into the Stomach and Intestines disrupts qi flow, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The yellow tongue coating and rapid pulse reflect the internal heat.

The chief herb, Scutellariae Radix (huang qin), drains heat and resolves toxicity. Radix Paeoniae (shao yao) astringes yin and relieves abdominal pain, while Glycyrrhizae Radix preparata (zhi gan cao) and Jujubae Fructus (da zao) harmonize the middle burner, augment qi, and enrich yin. Together, these herbs address both the root and manifestations of the disorder.
