PLANT DESCRIPTION
This pattern is damp-cold injuring the Spleen and Stomach, often from improper diet or exposure to cold and damp. It obstructs the middle burner, causing epigastric and abdominal fullness, loss of appetite, fatigue, loose diarrhea, and a white, slippery tongue coating. Severe cases may include abdominal pain and vomiting of clear fluids.

Directions of use:

The chief herbs, Magnoliae officinalis Cortex (hou po) and Citri reticulatae Pericarpium (chen pi), promote qi movement, dry dampness, and warm the middle burner. The deputy, Alpiniae katsumadai Semen (cao dou kou), disperses cold and strengthens these actions. Assistants include Aucklandiae Radix (mu xiang) to move qi and stop pain; Zingiberis Rhizoma (gan jiang) and Zingiberis Rhizoma recens (sheng jiang) to warm the Spleen and harmonize the Stomach; and Poria (fu ling) with Glycyrrhizae Radix (gan cao) to address dampness and support the middle burner.
