Symptoms

Simultaneous Exterior & Interior Heat: High fever with aversion to wind, paired with intense thirst and a "burning" internal sensation.

Description

Fang Feng Tong Sheng San uses a "Multi-Channel" strategy. It acknowledges that when a house is on fire and the doors are locked, you must open the windows, the front door, and the back door all at once.

Team "Sweat" (Fang Feng, Jing Jie, Bo He): These herbs drive the wind-heat out through the skin. They open the "Exterior" to resolve the fever and chills.

Team "Purge" (Da Huang, Mang Xiao): These target the "Interior" (Yang Ming) by flushing the bowels. This pulls the fire downward and away from the head and chest.

Team "Drain" (Zhi Zi, Hua Shi): These clear heat through the "Water Path" (urination). They "leach" damp-heat from the middle and lower burners.

Team "Clear" (Shi Gao, Huang Qin, Lian Qiao): These provide the "fire extinguisher" effect, directly cooling the Qi and Blood layers.

Team "Protect" (Dang Gui, Bai Shao, Bai Zhu): Because this clearing is so aggressive, these herbs ensure the Blood and Spleen Qi are not completely destroyed in the process.

Posology

Granules: 3 to 9g daily, divided into 2 doses, taken with warm water.

Raw Plants: Decoct in 1200ml of water. Drink 1 to 3 cups per day. Because of the Da Huang and Mang Xiao, expect significant changes in bowel movements.

Cautions

Strictly contraindicated in cases of Qi Deficiency or Internal Cold. This is an exceptionally "cold" and "dispersing" formula. It should only be used for robust patients with clear excess patterns. Not for use during pregnancy or in the elderly without strict supervision. Discontinue use as soon as the excess heat signs (constipation and high fever) have resolved to avoid injuring the Zheng Qi (Upright Qi).
