Dispel Wind-Damp & Supplement Deficiency • Lower Body Bi Syndrome Formula
Dispel Wind-Damp & Supplement Deficiency • Lower Body Bi Syndrome Formula
Symptoms
Chronic Lower Body Pain: Persistent, heavy, and fixed pain in the lower back, hips, knees, and ankles.
Structural Weakness: A feeling that the legs "cannot support the body" or a distinct lack of strength in the knees.
Cold Intolerance: Pain that is significantly worsened by cold or damp weather and relieved by heat or pressure.
Mobility Issues: Stiffness, numbness, or "creaky" joints that make walking or standing difficult.
Deficiency Signs: Palpitations, shortness of breath, and a general sense of frailty or "thinness" in the constitution.
Key Indicator: "Chronic Bi Syndrome with Root Deficiency"—where the "Wind" has moved into the deep tissues because the Liver (Sinews) and Kidneys (Bones) are no longer strong enough to guard the joints.
Tongue: Pale with a thin white coating;
Pulse: Thin, weak, and slow (Xì Ruò).

Description
Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang is famous for its "Simultaneous Treatment" strategy. It treats the Branch (the pain) and the Root (the deficiency) at the same time.
The Lower Body Guides (Du Huo & Niu Xi): Du Huo is the "Chief." Unlike Qiang Huo (which goes up), Du Huo specifically searches for Wind-Dampness in the lower back and legs. Niu Xi directs the entire formula downward to the knees and ankles.
The Structural Tonics (Sang Ji Sheng, Du Zhong, Shu Di): These "feed" the bones and sinews. Sang Ji Sheng and Du Zhong are specific for lower back integrity, while Shu Di provides the deep essence needed for recovery.
The Warming Catalyst (Rou Gui): Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) provides the "spark" of Yang. It warms the channels and dispels the deep, "frozen" cold that causes fixed pain.
The Qi and Blood Guard (Ren Shen, Dang Gui, Fu Ling): Because chronic pain "consumes" the body's energy, these herbs replenish the Qi and Blood to ensure the "Jade Screen" (defense) is restored.
Posology
Granules: 3 to 9g daily, divided into 2 doses, taken with warm water after meals.
Raw Plants: Decoct in 1000ml of water. Drink 1 to 3 cups per day. For chronic conditions, this formula is often taken for several months to rebuild the "Root."
Cautions
Strictly contraindicated for Damp-Heat Bi (red, hot, swollen joints). This formula is very warming and tonifying; it will "lock in" heat and worsen inflammation. Use with caution in patients with very high blood pressure or those who are prone to "Fire" (night sweats/irritability).
