Purges clumped heat in Intestines. Cools blood, removes blood stasis. Stops bleeding (charred). Accumulated obstruction due to heat from excess; constipation due to clumped heat in Intestines; damp-heat affecting the middle and lower burners. Heat from excess in blood level; blood stasis; bleeding due to reckless movement of hot blood. Blood in the stool from bleeding hemorrhoids or heat in the Intestines.

Cautions: Because this herb readily injures the Stomach qi, it should not be used in those with a weak Stomach. Similarly, it should be avoided by those with qi and blood deficiency who do not have significant accumulations or blood stasis. Use with great caution, and only when absolutely necessary, during menstruation, pregnancy, and lactation.
