PLANT DESCRIPTION

This is a combined formula of Huang Lian Jie Du Tang and Da Huang Gan Cao Tang(Rhubarb and Licorice Decoction). It is a formula for oral mucosal diseases. It has the function to clear heat and resolve toxin. It is applicable to those with mucosal redness，swelling，and erosion，as well as slippery and rapid pulse.

Formula Composition

  • Huang Lian（Rhizoma Coptidis），5g
  • Huang Qin（Radix Scutellariae），15g
  • Huang Bai（Cortex Phellodendri），10g
  • Zhi Zi（Fructus Gardeniae），15g
  • Da Huang（Radix et Rhizoma Rhei），10g
  • [Sheng］ Gan Cao（Radix Glycyrrhizae Cruda），20g

 
TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Decoction
Place the medicinals in 600 mL water and boil until 300 mL remains. Take the decoction warm，in 2 to 3 doses.

Suitable Population
For those with strong and robust physique，reddish and oily complexion with sheen ； tendency to have bitter taste and dryness in mouth，bad breath，fear of heat，copious sweating，heart vexation，difficulty to fall asleep，and mucosal hyperemia，erosion，redness，and swelling ； typically with red lips，red tongue，slippery or rapid pulse.

Suitable Diseases and Conditions

Oral lichen planus，benign mucosal pemphigoid，Behcet's disease，recurrent mouth ulcer，periodontitis，gingivitis，diabetes，and anorectal diseases.

Cautions

One should discontinue with this formula once the disease is relieved，as the formula is extremely bitter.
