Ze Xie, Fu Ling, and Zhu Ling are potent diuretics that leach out dampness and resolve water retention (Shui Shi).
Bai Zhu and Gui Zhi assist in the transformation of fluids. Bai Zhu strengthens the Spleen to prevent further dampness, while Gui Zhi warms the Yang to facilitate the "vaporization" of water in the Bladder.
Ban Xia and Sheng Jiang harmonize the Stomach and stop nausea, which is often aggravated by the presence of internal fluids.
Ren Shen, Da Zao, and Zhi Gan Cao protect the Zheng Qi (Upright Qi) and support the Middle Jurner, ensuring the body has the energy to move the fluids.
