Ba Wei Di Huang Tang is a classical formula used to warm and tonify Kidney Yang while supporting Kidney Yin and Essence. It is primarily indicated in patterns of Kidney Yang deficiency, where the warming and transformative functions of the Kidneys are weakened, leading to Cold, weakness, and impaired fluid metabolism.

This formula is a Yang-warming modification of Liu Wei Di Huang Tang, adding warming herbs to address Cold and functional decline in the lower burner.

Traditionally used in presentations such as:

• Cold sensations and cold limbs

• Lower back or knee weakness

• Frequent or clear urination

• Oedema, especially of the lower body

• Reduced libido

• Pale tongue with white coating

• Deep, weak, or slow pulse

This formula treats Kidney Yang deficiency with underlying Yin and Essence weakness.
Symptoms arise from insufficient warming and transformative power, rather than excess Cold or Heat.

Cautions

• Not indicated for Yin deficiency with Heat signs

• Use with caution due to the presence of Fu Zi

• Prescribe only when clear Yang-deficiency signs are present
