PLANT DESCRIPTION

This condition is hyperactive Liver yang generating internal Liver wind, often triggered by emotional stress, qi stagnation, or excessive yang. It can also affect the spirit, leading to insomnia and dream-disturbed sleep. A red tongue and wiry, rapid pulse indicate excess ministerial fire. The chief herbs, Gastrodiae Rhizoma (tian ma) and Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis (gou teng), calm and cool internal wind, while Haliotidis Concha (shi jue ming) anchors yang and directs blood downward, relieving headache and dizziness. Assistants Gardeniae Fructus (zhi zi) and Scutellariae Radix (huang qin) clear heat and drain fire to prevent yang from rising. Leonuri Herba (yi mu cao) and Cyathulae Radix (chuan niu xi) guide blood and qi downward, while Eucommiae Cortex (du zhong) and Taxilli Herba (sang ji sheng) nourish Liver and Kidney to strengthen the root. Polygoni multiflori Caulis (ye jiao teng) and Poria (fu shen) calm the spirit, helping with insomnia and restlessness.
