The chief herbs, Aucklandiae Radix (mu xiang) and Arecae Semen (bing lang), are bitter, acrid, and warming. They move qi, transform stagnation, and facilitate flow in all burners. Mu xiang warms the middle and dries dampness, while bing lang reduces accumulation and guides out stagnation, effectively relieving distention, pain, tenesmus, and dysenteric mucus.

Deputies include Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (da huang) and Pharbitidis Semen (qian niu zi), which purge accumulation, drain heat, and unblock the bowels, and Citri reticulatae viride Pericarpium (qing pi) and Citri reticulatae Pericarpium (chen pi), which support qi movement and transform accumulation.

Assistants such as Cyperi Rhizoma (xiang fu) and Curcumae Rhizoma (e zhu) relieve Liver constraint and disperse qi stagnation, while Coptidis Rhizoma (huang lian) and Phellodendri Cortex (huang bai) clear heat and dry dampness to stop diarrhea. Zingiberis Rhizoma recens (sheng jiang) acts as the envoy, harmonizing middle qi and reviving the Spleen.
